Scientists Turn Cockroaches Into Zombie Slaves

Israeli scientists have figured out how turn cockroaches into zombie slaves.
They're replicated the mysterious power of the jewel wasp, also known as the emerald cockroach wasp, which incorporates the cockroach into its reproductive cycle in a most gruesome way.
Most parasitic wasps paralyze their victims, but the jewel wasp's sting mysteriously leaves a cockroach able to walk, yet robbed of all free will.
The wasp leads the zombie roach back to its lair, lays an egg in the poor creature and then lets the wasp larva eat the roach alive from the inside out.

Mayor: 'Strong Evidence' Of Fire Department Exam Cheating

NO KIDDING

BALTIMORE -- An investigation into allegations of cheating by firefighters on a promotional exam found strong evidence supporting the claims, Mayor Sheila Dixon said Friday.
The city inspector general's report found that as many as six firefighters compromised the exam by either having prior knowledge of the questions, having studied with someone who did or having copied answers from someone who had prior knowledge of the test questions, WBAL TV 11 News reporter David Collins said.
The investigation found that the firefighters who took the test in July studied from a 2001 exam, which is not allowed under department rules. Dixon told WBAL TV 11 News that she had no idea how the firefighters got a copy of the previous exam.

read this----------> The allegations of cheating initially raised questions about race, because five of the best test scores -- the highest in the history of measuring results, the report said -- were all from black firefighters

Do you think it would have been smarter to get a few wrong ?

The black firefighters union and others branded the cheating allegations as racially motivated. They were not just African Americans and that was the allegation," said Marvin Doc Cheatham, NAACP.

Armed Standoff Unfolds at Clinton Office

ROCHESTER, N.H. (Nov. 30) - A deranged man wearing what appeared to be a bomb strapped to his chest walked into a Hillary Rodham Clinton campaign office Friday, took several hostages and demanded to speak to the candidate during a nearly four-hour standoff, authorities said. The man released the last of the hostages as the afternoon wore on, but he remained in the office and was not immediately taken into custody.

Karl Rove spins the War and blamed Democrats

Rove’s Claim That Congress Pushed Bush To War: ‘His Mouth Gets Ahead Of His Brain’
Karl Rove asserted on the Charlie Rose show recently that it was Congress that pushed the Bush administration into war with Iraq. “The administration was opposed” to voting for a war resolution in the fall of 2002, Rove claimed. “It seemed it make things move too fast,” he argued.
As ThinkProgress documented, key leaders in both the House and the Senate — including then-Majority Leader Tom Daschle (D-SD) — were asking Bush in 2002 to delay the Iraq war vote. But as Daschle recalled, when he asked Bush to delay the vote, Bush “looked at Cheney and he looked at me, and there was a half-smile on his face. And he said: ‘We just have to do this now.’”
This morning, former White House chief of staff at the time, Andrew Card, appeared on MSNBC’s Morning Joe and completely discredited Rove’s argument:
SCARBOROUGH: We have to start with something that we all are talking about a couple of days ago where Karl Rove went on Charlie Rose and he blamed the Democrats for pushing him and the president into war. Is that how it worked?

I Love Big Pilot Watches

The new watch craze for collectors this year has been the "Big Pilot Watch". This type of "tool watch" have been around since 1940, but today they have made big splash into watch collecting market. With case diameter starting at 40mm all the way up to 55mm and with the thickness of over 15mm,they are a wonderful piece of big art, function, and history.
High end brands such as of IWC and RGM are priced in the thousands but you can find brands like Ticino for just over $100.00.
Love them or hate them they are here to stay.

topic for discussion at the December's meeting

Posting from J.Eid

Today, the Department of Justice and the White House say the task force did just that. At the five-year anniversary event, Gonzales announced that the task force had won an unprecedented 1,236 corporate fraud convictions, including the convictions of 214 chief executive officers and presidents, 53 chief financial officers, 23 corporate lawyers and 129 vice presidents.

Corporations are out of control, and the people supposed to watch the cash register are emptying it out…at the expense of their employees and stock holders.

Shit, why does this have to be done by Justice after the fact. How about the legislature implementing some preventive controls. Like immigration, they don’t want to. And that applies to both sides of the house.

Just get it done. Not me.

Philosophers of Frugality

Frugal, Good - Cheap, Bad
Nov 29, 2002 – By Alex Wolf

There is a debate about the difference between cheap and frugal. The answer is quite simple.

Frugal people are not afraid to spend money.

They just insist on getting maximum bang for their buck. They shop around, either to get the lowest price, or to get the best price/value ratio. They time their purchases whenever possible, like waiting until September to buy a leftover new car. They plan ahead, and tend to be personally secure and confident. They are well organized, and understand that shopping doesn't mean spending, it means comparing prices and services received. To take roof repair as an example, the frugal person will know when the roof is getting old. They will take their time looking around for someone to do the job. They may find someone who is very good, and reasonably priced, but who has to be booked six months in advance.

A really organized frugal person will wait for a recession, when contractors are begging for work, and have roof and other renovations done then. Once a person gets the hang of being frugal, it does not take much extra effort to be frugal.

You only have to do the research once on where to get the least expensive staples of life in your neighborhood. Frugal people tend to feel less aggravated than cheap people, and have fewer crises, since they plan ahead. Frugal people have a sense of perspective, and therefore a sense of humor.

On the other hand, cheap people, who never seem to have a sense of humor, simply do not spend money unless it¹s absolutely unavoidable.

Even then, they spend the least that they can at that moment. Often, a cheap person will end up spending more money than a regular person would to get the same task accomplished.

This is because a cheap person often has to spend money on an emergency basis, or more than once to get a problem solved. A cheap person will also be dishonest with himself in a bid to not spend money. Let¹s look again at roof repair.

A cheap person will deny there is a leak until rain is splashing into the living room. Only then will he think about spending money on repairs. At that point, shopping around for the lowest priced, competent repairman is not an option. The cheap person will find the lowest cost retired handyman to do repairs.

The handyman, even if he knows what he's doing, will cut corners. This will lead to either having to call someone in again in a year, or continued leaks which eventually do thousands of dollars damage to the home. The cheap person may not ever pay to have those repairs made, but will ultimately have to sell the house for considerably less when the time comes.

Cheap people tend to feel much aggravation. They want what everyone else wants, but they deny themselves out of fear of spending money.

NOVEMBERS RANT:
Opinion: Do you think 401k money used to invest for retirement (stocks, bonds, GICs, etc.), end-up as compensation to CEOs and board members salaries and bonuses, etc?
As companies expand and intrastate spending increases, funded d by corporate loans and corporate bonds, etc. are stock sales properly accounted for..
As the public tightens their belt , why is it that buying food with coupons (or simply doing without), seems to act to supply the corporations with high corporate spending , private air plans, golf tournament sponsorship and elaborate spending?
