12/3/2007 3:12:04 PM Winter has arrived on both coasts of the United States, with a dangerous cocktail of sleet, rain, and snow making its presence felt from sea to shining sea. Meanwhile, the Midwest is recovering from a severe storm that sent drivers sliding on slick roads and left at least 11 dead.On the east coast, lake-effect snow and high winds gusting to 40 mph pounded western, central, and upstate New York Monday morning and afternoon. Farther north, in Maine and northern New England, snowfall estimates ranged up to 20 inches, although in central New York the total was held between three and six inches. The combination of rain and sleet led to ice storm warnings for Massachusetts and Connecticut. Meanwhile, heavy snow and wind led to winter storm warnings in Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine and northern and western New York. Kennedy and LaGuardia airports in New York City are reporting delays of two or more hours on flight departures and arrivals due to high winds.
